Building a Thriving Life - One Story At A Time

Hello Beautiful Soul,

Welcome to this edition of Thriving Soul. We all walk a winding road, and in every issue, I share a step from my own life that shaped my path to coaching. May these stories offer comfort, clarity, and inspiration as you walk your own beautiful path.

Story #2: The question I didn't know how to answer...

“How do you get to a good place in a relationship when you’re starting from bad communication and so much friction?”

It was a question from a member of the audience during a speaking engagement, and honestly? It stopped me in my tracks.

I stood there feeling that familiar wave of pressure—the urge to give a neat, perfectly packaged coaching answer with bullet points and a bow on it.

But the truth was, I struggled. The shifts in my own life hadn't happened because I followed some pristine blueprint from A to Z. They had happened through messy trial and error, through breakdowns, through trying and failing and trying again until things slowly started to realign. My answer felt clumsy to me. I walked off stage thinking, “Ugh, I totally fumbled that.”

Fast forward a few months later. I ran into that same person.

My immediate instinct was to apologize. I said, "How are you? I'm sorry I didn't give you a better answer back then." I fumbled, “ I feel I left you without a way forward.”

But before I could finish, she stopped me. She told me that my stumbling, my honesty, and my refusal to give her a fake "easy fix" was exactly what she needed at that time.

We spend so much time beating ourselves up because we don't have our healing or our relationships completely figured out. We think we need a map before we're allowed to take a step.

But real transformation doesn't happen because we have a pristine formula. It happens in the messy, unpolished middle, where we are willing to admit we don't know all the answers—and keep showing up anyway.

If you are standing in a mountain of friction right now, trying to figure out how to bridge the gap from A to Z, give yourself some grace. You don't need a polished roadmap. You just need to keep moving through the mess. Every little piece that you pick up and set right is a step forward.

One day, one moment at a time.

Where is "friction" showing up for you this week, and how can you give yourself permission to not have it all figured out yet? Hit reply and let me know—I read every email.

Rooting for you,

Christine Payne
