Hello Beautiful Soul,
Welcome to Peak Enlightenments bi-weekly newsletter, The Thriving Soul.
Empowering trauma healing and emotional growth through natural remedies and state-of-the-art modalities.
When we are navigating the aftermath of trauma, the world can feel entirely unpredictable. Our nervous systems often get stuck in a loop of anticipating the next storm, making it hard to feel safe in the present moment. This is my personal story.
Story #1: It takes a toll
Growing up, bullying wasn't just a childhood memory for me; it followed me into the corporate world, compounding over the years alongside personal losses and illnesses. For a long time, I lived in a constant state of hypervigilance—anxious and perpetually waiting for the next storm to hit.
Eventually, living that way took a heavy toll on my physical and emotional well-being, making self-advocacy essential for my survival. In 2014, my doctor delivered a sobering reality check: I was overweight, sleeping poorly, pre-diabetic, and dealing with high blood pressure. The prescription seemed straightforward—change my diet, exercise more, lose weight, and reduce stress.
I took that advice to heart. Two years later, I was hitting the gym four days a week, eating cleaner, and had dropped 15 pounds. Yet, despite all that hard work and dedication, my blood pressure refused to budge.
The missing piece of the puzzle finally became clear: no amount of kale or cardio could outrun the chronic stress I was digesting for eight hours a day at a job where I faced harassment and bullying on an almost daily basis.
In 2022, I finally left that job, and my blood pressure normalized almost immediately. But that wasn’t the neat, happy ending I had hoped for. I later faced a battle with breast cancer, and today, even the tiniest amount of overwork or stress can trigger tension tremors and joint pain. Healing wasn't a straight line, but by deeply committing to stress management and radical self-care, I've built a life that is once again manageable and bright.
At Peak Enlightenment, we often talk about blending natural remedies with state-of-the-art modalities because true healing requires both a grounded, earthy baseline and modern tools to help rewire how the brain and body hold stress.
One Small Shift to Try This Week: When you feel overwhelm creeping in, try the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Method combined with a deep breath of a calming botanical scent (like lavender or frankincense):
- Notice 5 things you can see.
- Touch 4 things you can feel.
- Hear 3 things you can hear.
- Smell 2 things you can smell.
- Taste 1 thing you can taste.
This simple act bridges your physical environment back to your conscious mind, offering an immediate pause button for an overactive nervous system.
